The Griqua Legacy
The Griqua people were a mixed-race community that emerged in the Cape, descended from Hottentots and different European races. The Griqua nation has been in existence about two hundred years, creating a distinct identity that shaped the political landscape of the interior.
East Griqualand
Kokstad, the capital of East Griqualand, lies in the valley of the Umzimhlava river between Mount Currie and the Ingeli mountains at 1280m above sea level. Few towns in South Africa can compare in scenic beauty or picturesque history.
Preservation
Our mission is to preserve and promote the history of all cultures of East Griqualand as a whole, including the growth and development of the region as well as prominent role players who have impacted the area and South Africa as a nation.
